Long, slen­der pre­ci­sion parts, espe­cially clamped between cen­ters, come with their own challenges:
deflec­tion and dis­tor­tion, e.g. from heat treat­ment, lead to out-of-round­ness in the part. Until now, only highly expe­ri­enced spe­cial­ists have been able to cor­rect such errors in the grind­ing process – at con­sid­er­able time expense.

Because steady rests have tra­di­tion­ally been sta­tic machine com­po­nents, we had to com­pletely rede­fine the steady rest for grind­ing applications.

With a unique posi­tion­ing accu­racy in the sub-microm­e­ter range and the abil­ity to dynam­i­cally cor­rect the posi­tion of the work­piece dur­ing the grind­ing process, we have cre­ated a new prod­uct cat­e­gory that meets increas­ing demands for accu­racy, even in pre­vi­ously ›dif­fi­cult‹ work­pieces – WOTAN® Dynamic Rest.

With our newly devel­oped dynamic steady-rest sys­tem, we com­bine decades of grind­ing exper­tise in a unique com­bi­na­tion of sens­ing tech­nol­ogy, soft­ware and active posi­tion cor­rec­tion. Mea­sur­ing probes mon­i­tor dimen­sional accu­racy and cor­rec­tion require­ments, while a WOP™ Touch mod­ule fully auto­mat­i­cally con­trols one or more WOTAN® 2‑point dynamic rests for real-time posi­tion correction.

The entire grind­ing process takes place in closed-door machin­ing with­out man­ual oper­a­tor inter­ven­tion – sav­ing time, increas­ing pre­ci­sion and pre­vent­ing errors. Dis­tor­tion is actively ground out – for max­i­mum pre­ci­sion with­out the bar­rier of expert-only know-how. Inte­grated into WOP™ Touch, it elim­i­nates the need for your employ­ees to have many years of expe­ri­ence in steady-rest operation.
