Ultrasonic Expands the Capabilities of WOTAN® Grinding Technologies
With new materials, processes and requirements, the challenges in grinding are also evolving. This is why WEMA Glauchau is continuously expanding the capabilities of its WOTAN® grinding machines.
Our experience in high-precision metal machining down to the submicron range provides the basis for new applications in precision engineering, optics, robotics and other high-tech industries such as (Aero)Space – including the machining of Advanced Materials such as technical ceramics and fused quartz.
Together with VibroCut GmbH, we are expanding the capabilities of our grinding machines with Ultrasonic technology. Ultrasonic-assisted machining reduces process forces and tool wear, enabling particularly gentle, precise and process-reliable machining of demanding materials and geometries.
Additional capabilities for smaller, high-precision components further extend the WOTAN® portfolio, together with the high flexibility of WOTAN® technologies for changing applications and small batch sizes. With WOP™ Touch, machining programs can be created without conventional CNC programming; in the optional 3D module, STEP files can be imported directly and machining surfaces selected. Closed Door Machining also allows multiple machining operations to be combined in a single setup.
At the W3+ Fair 2026 in Jena, we presented these capabilities for the first time to a specialist audience from photonics, optics, precision engineering and other high-tech industries. Together with Stöckel Werkzeugmaschinen and in exchange with our Ultrasonic partner VibroCut, the focus was on specific applications, new materials and the question of how precision machining can be made more flexible, efficient and gentle on the material.
The discussions at the trade fair demonstrated the wide range of requirements across these industries – and the potential they offer for the further development of WOTAN® technologies.
